New Councillor Essentials (afternoon)

This programme will give newly elected or co-opted councillors a good introduction to parish and town life. Please note -  It is more beneficial if you have attended at least one council meeting before beginning this programme. It is also better for delegates to have completed the e-learning below before attending the New Councillor Essentials webinar.

What happens after my clerk has made my booking?
Immediately after the booking has been submitted, you will receive an email confirmation - please check your junk mail if this is not received in your inbox.

Two weeks prior to the New Councillor Essentials online training you will receive information by email on how to access the pre-session A & B e-learning modules - each take 45 - 60 minutes to work through. For the best experience we would advise using a desktop or laptop, although these can be completed on a tablet or smartphone.

A reminder will be sent a few days before the New Councillor Essentials online training session to give you time (if needed) to complete the e-learning over the weekend.

On the day of training please make sure you join at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time using the emailed Zoom joining link which will be sent a few days in advance of the training.

Speakers

Neil Wedge

County Officer & Chief Executive

Neil has lived in Dorset since 2019 having moved from the East Midlands where he has lived for the majority of his life. His main career was in property and banking for 25 years working all over the UK and latterly in London. After leaving the banking sector, a family friend suggested he consider applying for the clerk role in the market town where he and his family lived. He undertook that role for 5 years and gained the CiLCA qualification. The role was equally rewarding and frustrating but gave him an insight into town life he'd not seen.

In moving to Dorset an opportunity to join DAPTC came up, which enabled Neil to combine the experience gained in his main career with the very hands on role he undertook as a clerk.

Neil supports a number of courses provided by DAPTC to help clerks and councillors undertake their roles, as well as compliment some of the specialist trainers we use.

With a keen sense of humour - sessions he runs will be informative, interactive and fun.
