Dorset Association of Parish and Town Councils (DAPTC) is one of many county associations across England representing local parish and town councils.
The association is a membership organisation and supports 98% of local councils in Dorset in delivering for their communities.
Parish and town councils are the tier of government closest to their communities. DAPTC serves as a vital resource for these councils, providing advice on legal and procedural matters, as well as networking opportunities and training events to help councillors and employees fulfil their roles effectively.
Training and development for councillors, clerks and responsible financial officers (RFOs) and council employees covers a variety of topics from building planning to finance to digital skills. The association is also an accredited trainer for the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) and can offer study for professional qualifications for council employees, right here in Dorset.
The association is also a liaison between its member councils and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) and Dorset Council. Membership of DAPTC includes membership to the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) who provide many resources for member councils and ensure the interests of parish and town councils are represented to government agencies.
Overall, DAPTC supports Dorset’s local councils ensuring their voices, and those of their residents, are heard and respected.
