Domains Helper Service | Working Together Webinar 10 Dec 2024

The Domains Helper Team presented the opportunity for parish councils to secure their own domain name and associated email accounts.

DAPTC are looking to support those with an active dorset-aptc.gov.uk email account migrate to an alternative solutiuon within the next 6-9 months. Potentially moving early, might secure funding available through the domains helper service.

Below are links to the information you need to sign up to the service and unlock that funding. First a follow up message from Sandra and Karen who were presenting today:

It was good to meet you all today and I hope our introduction to .gov.uk domains was useful. For those who are interested in finding out more, you can:

Read supporting infomration: Take a look at our short 'welcome pack' short 'welcome pack' and the help that's available.

Join us at one of our virtual meetings - you can sign-up to the first of our sessions by completing this short form

Check the shortlist of registrars - who you choose is down to you: Browse through our shortlist of .gov.uk Approved Registrars - doing your due diligence here will make sure that you find the right supplier for your council's needs and budgets. There are 24 or so to choose from, all of which can help you in your move to a gov.uk domain.

Don't forget, all our sessions are free and there is absolutely no obligation to move to a gov.uk domain if you do come along.  The first session goes into more details about the kinds of services you might want to consider along with example costs. The sessions can be attended by both clerks and councillors - it’s a great way to build on your foundation knowledge from today’s session.

As an aside, there were a few questions around moving a website over to a .gov.uk domain and accessibility. Here is the link to the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations that Karen posted in the meetings chat. This should help every council wanting to meet their obligations within the limits of their capabilities - please check out Part 2, section 7 of the guidance for more on this.

And last but not least, it's worth noting again that our funding position is very fast moving. Funding is more than 85% allocated so please be quick if this is something that is important to your council.
