The Dorset Association of Parish & Town Councils (DAPTC) is a pivotal organisation representing and supporting town and parish councils across Dorset. We are dedicated to promoting effective local governance and community engagement.

Role Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Deputy Chief Executive to work collaboratively with our Chief Executive in driving strategic initiatives, supporting member councils, and advancing local governance across Dorset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans, lead organisational initiatives, and deputise for the Chief Executive
  • Member Support: Build strong relationships with member councils, develop innovative support programs, and promote membership engagement
  • Policy and Advocacy: Monitor legislative developments, advocate for member councils, and prepare policy briefings
  • Training and Development: Design and deliver capacity-building programs for council members and staff
  • Communications: Manage stakeholder relationships and contribute to organisational communications
  • Operational Management: Ensure efficient organisational operations, monitor budgets, and support event management

Essential Requirements

  • Good working knowledge in local government, governance, or related public sector roles
  • Strong strategic planning and leadership capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain professional partnerships
  • Understanding of local council governance frameworks
  • Organisational and project management skills

Desirable Qualifications

  • Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA)
  • Previous experience working with parish or town councils
  • Demonstrable track record of policy development and stakeholder engagement
