The Environment Agency’s National Waste Crime Survey went live on Monday 3rd February and will run until Sunday 23rd February.

A link to the survey is below:

We are inviting you to share your views in our short survey to help us better understand the scale and impact of waste crime.

By taking part, you will be helping us to combat waste crime and support legitimate businesses.

The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. The information you give will be confidential and anonymous.

Waste crime costs the economy in England an estimated £1 billion per year. In 2023 respondents to the survey estimated that 18% of waste may be handled illegally at some point in the waste supply chain. This is around 34 million tonnes of waste every year, enough to fill 4 million skips.

We work hard to stop waste criminals impacting on our environment and communities, the legitimate waste management industry, and the economy.  By completing the survey, you will be helping us to better understand the scale and impact of waste crime, design better interventions, and understand the effectiveness of action we and our partners take. The results of the survey will help us combat waste crime and support legitimate businesses.

Stopping waste criminals protects your environment, your land and your business.

With your insight, experiences, and knowledge, we can build a better intelligence picture that helps to stop waste criminals faster.

Respond anonymously by 23rd February
