DAPTC Seeks Seven Parish and Town Council Representatives for Board Appointments
Nominations now open for AGM Appointed Director positions
The Dorset Association of Parish and Town Councils Ltd (DAPTC) is calling for nominations from member councils across the county to fill seven AGM Appointed Director positions on its board of ten directors.
The appointments will be made at the DAPTC AGM on 22 November 2025, with six positions available for the Dorset Council area and one for the BCP Council area. These volunteer roles offer an exciting opportunity for parish and town councillors to help shape the future of local democracy across Dorset.
What We're Looking For
DAPTC wants a board that truly reflects the diversity of its membership – both geographically and by council size. Whether you represent a small rural parish with under 1,000 electors or a large town council with over 5,000 electors, your voice and experience matter.
We're seeking passionate councillors who are:
- Committed to supporting and improving local councils
- Ready to bring fresh ideas and community insight
- Keen to champion collaboration across Dorset
- Focused on good governance and strategic thinking
- Non-political in approach – representing the sector, not party politics
The Role
AGM Appointed Directors play a vital part in shaping DAPTC's direction and ensuring that voices from all corners of the county are heard and valued. With increasing numbers of uncontested elections across Dorset, directors also have a key role in raising the profile of parish and town councils and encouraging wider participation in local democracy.
Key responsibilities include representing member councils' interests, helping shape DAPTC's strategy, strengthening links between the association and local councils, and fostering positive working relationships with Dorset Council's unitary councillors and officers.
The commitment involves quarterly board meetings (in person or online) and occasional involvement in working groups or additional sessions, with full support provided by DAPTC staff.
How to Apply
Member councils are encouraged to make their councillors aware of these opportunities and to support suitable candidates in applying.
Nominations must be submitted using the official nomination form and returned to
The nomination form requires a brief statement (maximum 200 words) explaining why the nominee would like to join the DAPTC Board, and must be signed by both the nominee and either the council's Clerk or Chair to confirm the nomination.
No special experience is required – what matters is being engaged, collaborative, and committed to improving how local councils are supported across Dorset.
