Advice and support from Parish Council Domains Helper Service

Although funding to encourage councils to move to .gov.uk domains has ended, the service is still available for advice and support.

Changes to the 2025 Practitioners’ Guide explain best practice for digital and data compliance and the requirement for local councils to have a generic email account hosted on an authority owned domain. If your council is making changes to meet this requirement then a move to a gov.uk domain makes sense.

The Parish Council Domains Helper Service has already helped over 1,000 councils move to .gov.uk, and can help local councils understand how to work safely and securely online and how adhering to best practice will help. The service can help you understand the process of moving to .gov.uk and answer common questions like how much it costs. If this is something you and your council are interested please send us an email so we can gauge if a training session is required.
