2024 Councillor Induction Pack
Getting councillors settled in and understanding how council works and operates is really important. Equally, councillors need to know how they must conduct themselves and contribute to the decision making process. Having an induction plan / checklist can help Clerks make sure everyone gets the same message, both for new and returning councillors.
Background:
It's important things get off on the right foot! The induction pack for new and returning councillors provides a quick guide that fits neatly with all of the model templates for council. All you need to do is add your logo instead of our DAPTC logo and tweak to suit. Rather than printing the pack, it can be provided in pdf format for distribution and reading. You might like to ask councillors to confirm they have read it. If you wish to print that's entirely up to you.
You could use the induction pack for the basis of an inhouse 'get to know each other' meeting or simply an essential read for councillors.
I can't emphasis the use of the 2024 Councillor Induction Pack enough - all councillors need to know in one document!
The pack also promotes the importance of training and covers essential things to do and observe when in role. In our training pages you will find all the election year courses to get your councillors up and running quickly on key topics.
Email Consent Form
This is simply used to make sure councillors advise you of the email address they prefer to be used for council business. If council supply an email address whilst they are a councillor, hopefully you will have a poilcy that explains how the email account can be used and what it mustn't be used for.
If, however, your council doesn't supply email accounts - it is helpful to make sure councillors are clear where they want summons, meeting papers and correspondence to go to whilst in office. This is particularly helpful if councillors operate multiple email accounts for the various organisations they are involved in.
Make sure they are aware that should their contact details change - they should formerly advise the Clerk and re-sign a new email consent form. The template is below in the resources section.
