About the Role
West Lulworth Parish Council is looking for a part time Parish Clerk / Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) to provide administrative support to the parish and its 7 councillors. This is a flexible, home-based role with monthly evening meetings.
As the Council's Proper Officer and RFO, the Clerk is responsible for the smooth and lawful running of the Parish Council's business — providing administrative support, actioning decisions, and advising the Council on statutory duties and best practice. As RFO, the Clerk keeps accurate financial records, prepares budgets and annual accounts for audit, and processes invoices and payments.

What You'll Do
- Prepare and publish agendas, notices and minutes to statutory deadlines, and attend Council meetings
- Act as RFO and maintain financial records, prepare budgets and annual accounts, and ensure compliance with financial regulations
- Ensure the Council acts within its legal powers, maintain statutory registers, and advise on governance and policy
- Act as the Council's day-to-day point of contact for Data Protection (GDPR) and Freedom of Information (FOI) obligations — GDPR compliance is a key, ongoing part of this role
- Act as the main point of contact for parishioners, Dorset Council and all other key stakeholders, with strong emphasis on clear, professional written communication
- Manage parish communications including emails, notices, website updates, and social media (if applicable)
- Oversee parish assets (e.g. play area, noticeboards) and liaise with contractors and suppliers
What We're Looking For
- Good general education (GCSE level or equivalent); CiLCA qualification desirable, or willingness to work towards it
- Administrative experience, including organising meetings, maintaining accurate records and working to deadlines
- Sound understanding of GDPR / data protection and confidentiality requirements
- Strong written communication skills, essential for liaising with residents and all key stakeholders
- Strong organisational and time-management skills; able to work independently
- Integrity, reliability, discretion and attention to detail
- Local government/parish council or financial admin experience is desirable, as is access to transport for site visits
