Parish Clerk / RFO to Chesil Bank Parish Council

Chesil Bank Parish Council is seeking to appoint a motivated, organised and approachable individual to the position of Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.

The Council serves the four parishes of Abbotsbury, Fleet, Langton Herring and Portesham and is looking for someone who is enthusiastic about supporting local communities and the work of the Parish Council.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and financial management of the Council, including preparing agendas and minutes, attending monthly evening meetings, maintaining financial records, advising councillors on procedures and legislation, and liaising with residents, contractors and other organisations.

Applicants should have excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, be confident in financial administration and be able to work independently, manage their own workload and meet deadlines.

Previous experience in local government and a CiLCA qualification would be advantageous, although applicants with relevant transferable skills are encouraged to apply. Training and support will be available.

The position is home-based, with attendance required at Council meetings and occasional site visits.

The anticipated start date is 1 March 2027, although an earlier appointment may be considered for the right candidate to allow for a smooth handover with the current Clerk.
