Green Flag awarded to Radipole Park and Gardens to join Greenhill and Sandsfoot in being awarded this prestigious status.
Weymouth Town Council is thrilled to announce there will be three Green Flags proudly flying across its parks. Radipole Park and Gardens has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for the first time, while both Greenhill Gardens and Sandsfoot Gardens have retained the award for another year running.
The gardens are three of 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces. The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG), recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Welcoming the news, Cllr Caroline Nickinson, Mayor of Weymouth said:
"It’s fantastic to see a third Green Flag Award given to Radipole Park and Gardens. It now joins Greenhill Gardens and Sandsfoot Gardens in gaining this coveted accolade. My thanks must go to our brilliant gardeners, and members of the Friends’ groups for all the immense work that goes on behind the scenes to achieve this. From planning out the designs, to caring for and planting the plants, Weymouth Town Council’s gardeners ensure the flower beds really do come into their own at this time of year. If you haven’t been for a visit recently, I would highly recommend it.”

Any green space that is freely accessible to the public is eligible to enter for a Green Flag Award. Awards which are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag Award status. To find out more visit the website: greenflagaward.org.
