Green Flag Award for Christchurch Quay

Christchurch Town Council is celebrating after Christchurch Quay was awarded a Green Flag Award for 2026.

The award means the Quay has once again been recognised as one of the country’s best parks and green spaces. The international quality mark, managed by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises well-managed parks and public spaces that provide high-quality facilities, strong environmental standards and welcoming places for residents and visitors. Situated on the banks of the River Stour, Christchurch Quay is one of the town’s most treasured public assets. It has been a popular leisure destination since the 1920s, and continues to welcome families, walkers, boat users, tourists and community groups throughout the year. It provides a unique meeting point where heritage, nature, recreation, tourism and community life come together. The site also includes the popular Splash Park, recently reopened after essential maintenance work.

Councillor Maggie Fidler, Mayor of Christchurch, said: “We are delighted that Christchurch Quay has once again received a Green Flag Award. This recognition reflects the hard work of Council staff, volunteers and partners who help maintain this much-loved space, ensuring it remains a welcoming, safe and attractive place for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the year.”

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy. Christchurch Town Council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
