Applications to be the next Dorset Town of Culture are open now and close Monday 13 July 2026.
Established by the Arts Development Company (ADC) in 2024, Dorset Town of Culture is now a flagship cultural initiative for the county. Each year, one town is selected to deliver a programme of creative activity, bringing communities together and strengthening local cultural identity. The successful town will receive £30,000 from Dorset Council, match-funded by the successful town.
The programme has already delivered strong impact:
- Wimborne (2026): currently delivering an exciting programme of events - FIND OUT MORE on Wimborne's Town of Culture website
- Portland & Weymouth (2025): 24 projects, 137 artists, over 15,000 attendees
- Bridport (2024 pilot): 35 events, 10,000 attendees
ADC are looking for towns with:
- A clear cultural vision and ambition
- Strong community involvement
- A distinctive cultural offer
- Plans for funding, governance and legacy
- A commitment to access and inclusion
How to apply:
- Complete the application form via the Arts Development Company website
- Submit a short (3-minute) video outlining your town's vision
- Be able to match-fund £30,000
Deadline for submissions: 10am, Monday 13 July with interviews taking place Wednesday 22nd July.
