This course is aimed at clerks and RFOs of parish and town councils, who are involved in preparing and monitoring their council's budgets. It is also suitable for councillors on Finance Committees.

Please note: this course is Intermediate in the CDF but it should be considered Essential for councillors on Finance Committees

Topics include:

  • Setting a budget and how and when to prepare one.
  • Approving and issuing a precept.
  • Contingencies and reserves.
  • How the council tax base affects the budget.
  • Inflation and other factors that may affect a budget.
  • Budget monitoring and managing throughout the year.
On the day

This is an interactive course and in order to fully particpate you will need a device with a reasonable screen size such as a PC, laptop or tablet.

Steve is a former Town Clerk and an accountant with 30 years’ experience in public sector finance, who specialises in advice and training for the local council sector.
