Events & Engagement - these are a mixture of face to face (subject to prevailing COVID19 guidance) events and online video calls. As and when face to face events re-start we will provide an update. These will be for officers or elected members or both.

Online & Webinars - these are provided by our training partners and internal trainers on key topics for the parish and town council sector. The key benefit for members is that these can be delivered more cost effectively and most importantly remove the need to travel across county. Typically these will be for up to 2 hours maximum and delivered via one of the popular online platforms. Times will be available for weekday daytime and evenings.

E-Learning - This is new for DAPTC. In conjunction with NALC we are making available initially 12 generic modules that take less than an hour to complete. More importantly these can be done in your own time, when suits you. The content is mainly for officers, but some courses will be beneficial for elected members such as Equality & Diversity, for example. These modules cost between £14 - £20 per delegate and include a short assessment at the end to consolidate learning. We hope Clerks will see some of these topics as important to develop their teams or if a lone worker a key part of their annual learning / continual professional development. These take between 45-60 minutes online to complete.

Seminars - From time to time we hope to get back to face to face seminars with guest speakers covering topics relevant to the sector or our members in Dorset. We don't have any dates in the diary currently but will keep you posted with any news.

Important! - Please make sure you book training through your Clerks as they will monitor training budgets and ensure council are not overspending the amount set.

Course Booking Procedure

Within each course tile on any of the training delivery pages you will see an option to book delegates, request CPD points and give us any notes around access or invoicing arrangements. Additionally you can book up to 4 delegates. After submitting the form to DAPTC you will receive a copy email which can then be forwarded to delegates.

If you haven't had confirmation of your training booking request from DAPTC saying you are on the course within 5 days - let us know asap!

CiLCA Training

Read this page of CiLCA Information from the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), administrators of CiLCA. If you have any queries please contact SLCC or contact DAPTC.

Currently we are indebted to Somerset ALC for providing CiLCA training to officers in Dorset. Details of dates for the next cohort will be shown here shortly. CiLCA information is shown on the following page: CiLCA Training by Somerset ALC

DAPTC will look to bring CiLCA back in county within the next 12 months.

Booking T&Cs - all of our training is referred to as 'courses' below:

Joining Instructions

The delegate and clerk will receive an emailed course confirmation from DAPTC, including directions to the venue and other course details approximately ten working days prior to the course date. If this is not received, please contact us as it may indicate we have not received the booking.

Late Bookings

Our invoice will include an additional £10.00 to cover administration costs for bookings received less than ten clear working days prior to the course date.

Amendment to booking - change of delegate

No charge to amend the booking to a different councillor or employee within the same council, provided the information is emailed to DAPTC (and acknowledged by DAPTC) at least ten clear working days before the course date. The Late Booking charge of £10.00 will apply to amendments received after this time.

Amendment to booking - transfer to an alternative course

No charge to transfer the booking to an alternative course, provided the information is emailed to DAPTC (and acknowledged by DAPTC) prior to the joining instructions being emailed (ten clear working days before the course date). Transfer requests received after this are subject to the Late Booking charge; transfer requests received less than five clear working days prior to the original course will be subject to the Cancellation Charge.

Cancellation by/on behalf of the delegate

Unless a cancellation is advised to us by email at least ten clear working days prior to the course date, your council will still be invoiced and the full course fee will still be payable.

Cancellation by DAPTC

As fees are invoiced after a course, no refunds will apply. We reserve the right to cancel a course at any time, or to offer an alternative date, without recourse. Course information is correct at the time of publication, however alterations are occasionally necessary due to circumstances beyond our control. Courses may have to be cancelled if an insufficient number of delegates are booked to attend.

Our expectations of delegates attending DAPTC courses

Delegates must show respect to one another at all times;
Delegates must show respect to those organising and delivering the event;
Questions of the person(s) delivering the event are encouraged but they should be constructive and not framed in such a way to attack that person or others;
Delegates wishing to ask a question should indicate by raising their hand and should not cut across another person who may be speaking;
Delegates are reminded that conversations between delegates whilst a speaker is delivering a presentation are disruptive.

Requests for advice on individual issues raised before, during or after training sessions

Trainers will give information in relation to the actual course content only, they are unable to answer individual requests for advice unless they feel the query is of relevance and benefit to all the delegates present. Any queries not falling into this category can be put up through your council (i.e. raised at a council meeting) and the council can ask the clerk to contact DAPTC.

Sponsors and Exhibitors

DAPTC invite exhibitors to conferences, seminars and the AGM to give councillors and clerks the opportunity to meet with the exhibitors to find out more about the service they provide and recent innovations. The presence of an exhibitor does not imply an endorsement by the DAPTC or by individual officers of DAPTC.

Where DAPTC have received sponsorship from an organisation (as shown on the Annual Conference, Clerks Seminar and AGM agendas and the Annual Report) this does not imply an endorsement by the DAPTC or by individual officers of DAPTC.
